What a Full Stack Developer seat is

A Full Stack Developer seat covers the entire application — database design, backend server logic, REST APIs, and the React or Next.js frontend that users interact with. It is the right seat when you need complete features built from scratch rather than maintaining separate frontend and backend workstreams. One developer, one PM, one active project. Scope a feature from the data model all the way to the UI and get it shipped.

Who this seat is for

  • Startups building an MVP that needs the full stack — not just one layer
  • Businesses replacing spreadsheet workflows with a real web application
  • Teams that want one accountable engineer across the entire stack instead of two specialists
  • Founders pairing a Full Stack seat with a UI/UX seat to move faster on product and design separately

Duties on your project

What this seat does under your Project Manager.

  • Build complete web application features spanning database, API, and frontend UI
  • Design database schemas, write migrations, and connect them to server logic
  • Develop REST or GraphQL API endpoints and integrate them with the frontend
  • Build responsive, interactive user interfaces using React, Next.js, and Tailwind CSS
  • Set up authentication, user management, and role-based access systems
  • Refactor and improve legacy codebases for performance and maintainability

Example deliverables

  • Complete functional web application with frontend, backend, and database connected
  • Custom dashboard feature built from data model to live UI
  • Integrated payment gateway setup with user account and subscription management
  • CI/CD-ready codebase deployed to Vercel, AWS, or your hosting environment of choice
  • Technical documentation covering the architecture, API endpoints, and deployment steps

When to choose a different seat

  • Advanced database sharding, complex query tuning, or data pipeline architecture (use the Database Engineer seat)
  • Native iOS or Android apps (use the App Developer seat)
  • Design-only work without a development component (use the UI/UX & Frontend seat)

How the subscription works

  1. Configure the Full Stack Developer seat and select your hours package on Pricing.
  2. After checkout, your PM creates the project workspace. Add 3+ seats for team discounts.
  3. Assign full-stack feature tickets or hand over your product backlog.
  4. The developer handles code changes across the entire stack and submits pull requests.
  5. Baseline QC runs on every delivery. Review, approve, or request changes in your project chat.

Full Stack Developer FAQ

Can one full stack developer build an entire product solo?

Yes — for MVPs and growing web applications. A full stack developer handles both the server and client layers. As your product matures, you might add a Design seat or a specialized Backend seat to parallelize.

What tech stack does the Full Stack seat use?

React and Next.js on the frontend, Node.js or Python on the backend, PostgreSQL or MongoDB for the database, and Tailwind CSS for styling. TypeScript and JWT/OAuth authentication are standard.

How is this different from the Software Developer seat?

The Full Stack seat explicitly covers both the frontend UI and the backend server in the same project stream. The Software Developer seat is broader and includes data engineering, DevOps, and integrations — but is not specifically frontend-focused.

Do you support deployment to AWS, Vercel, or other platforms?

Yes. Standard CI/CD pipeline setups and deployments to Vercel, AWS, Heroku, and similar platforms are included when scoped into the checklist.

Tools & Access

Common questions about tool licences and what you need to get started.

Do I need to provide tool licences (e.g. Tableau, Power BI, Adobe CC, Figma)?

By default, yes — the client provides access to any proprietary tools, software licences, or platform credentials the developer will need. This keeps your data in your own accounts and avoids delays. That said, Cloudesk can also procure and manage tool licences on your behalf at an additional charge. Your assigned Technical Project Manager will advise on the best setup during onboarding.

What do I actually need to get started?

Two things: (1) access to the tools and platforms your developer will work in, and (2) a brief 30-minute onboarding call with your PM to align on scope and priorities. We handle everything else — developer assignment, sprint planning, daily standups, and Baseline QC on every delivery.

Which tools typically require a paid licence?

Common paid tools include design platforms (Figma, Adobe CC), BI and analytics tools (Tableau, Power BI, Looker), cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure), and industry-specific SaaS. Open-source stacks — VS Code, Python, React, PostgreSQL, and similar — need no licence at all. Your PM will flag any tool requirements before the first sprint starts.
