What a E-Commerce & CMS Developer seat is

An E-Commerce & CMS Developer seat is for live storefronts and content-managed websites that need continuous attention — not a one-time build. Your developer customizes Shopify themes with Liquid, builds and maintains WordPress and WooCommerce stores with PHP, manages plugins and inventory systems, and resolves the checkout bugs and mobile display errors that cost you conversions. Your Project Manager sequences campaigns, fixes, and new features so nothing falls through the cracks.

Who this seat is for

  • Shopify or WooCommerce stores that need ongoing fixes, campaigns, and new features every month
  • Businesses migrating from an outdated WordPress theme to a cleaner, faster setup
  • E-commerce brands that want a dedicated developer without the cost of a full-time hire
  • Marketing teams that need developer support for seasonal campaigns and promotional pages

E-Commerce & CMS Developer FAQ

Can this seat handle custom Shopify app integrations?

Yes. Standard plugin embedding, custom Liquid script additions, and Shopify API integrations are supported. Building a fully custom Shopify app from scratch is a larger engagement best quoted separately.

Do you work on headless commerce setups?

Basic headless setups using the Shopify Storefront API are supported. Fully custom headless commerce with a React frontend is better suited to the Full Stack Developer seat.

Are plugin or theme licenses included in the seat price?

No. Third-party plugin licenses, theme purchases, and hosting costs are separate from the labour seat. The seat covers development time only.

Can you maintain a store that already exists or only build new ones?

Both. Existing stores are the most common case — ongoing maintenance, campaign pages, and performance fixes. New stores are built from theme setup to launch as a scoped project.

Tools & Access

Common questions about tool licences and what you need to get started.

Do I need to provide tool licences (e.g. Tableau, Power BI, Adobe CC, Figma)?

By default, yes — the client provides access to any proprietary tools, software licences, or platform credentials the developer will need. This keeps your data in your own accounts and avoids delays. That said, Cloudesk can also procure and manage tool licences on your behalf at an additional charge. Your assigned Technical Project Manager will advise on the best setup during onboarding.

What do I actually need to get started?

Two things: (1) access to the tools and platforms your developer will work in, and (2) a brief 30-minute onboarding call with your PM to align on scope and priorities. We handle everything else — developer assignment, sprint planning, daily standups, and Baseline QC on every delivery.

Which tools typically require a paid licence?

Common paid tools include design platforms (Figma, Adobe CC), BI and analytics tools (Tableau, Power BI, Looker), cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure), and industry-specific SaaS. Open-source stacks — VS Code, Python, React, PostgreSQL, and similar — need no licence at all. Your PM will flag any tool requirements before the first sprint starts.
