What a Backend Developer seat is
A Backend Developer seat is for the engineering that users never see but always feel. Your backend developer designs and builds the server logic, database architecture, REST and GraphQL APIs, authentication systems, and third-party integrations that make your product actually work. This is not a general 'tech help' seat — it is a focused, PM-managed stream of backend engineering work delivered on a checklist with Baseline QC on every pull request.
Who this seat is for
- SaaS products that need a solid, well-documented API layer before adding a frontend
- Businesses replacing manual workflows with a database-backed application
- Teams whose frontend is ready but the server side is a bottleneck or missing entirely
- Founders who need a backend engineer with PM oversight — not just a freelancer on Upwork

Backend Developer FAQ
What backend languages and frameworks do you support?
Node.js with Express, Python with FastAPI or Django, REST APIs, and GraphQL. Database support includes PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Supabase, and Redis.
Can the backend developer handle payment gateway integration?
Yes. Stripe, PayPal, and other standard payment processors are supported. Complex multi-currency or custom checkout flows are scoped upfront so estimates are accurate.
Will my backend handle cloud hosting and deployment?
Standard cloud deployments on AWS, GCP, or Heroku are covered when scoped. Highly complex multi-region or high-availability infrastructure clusters require separate infrastructure planning.
How are database credentials and access managed securely?
Engineers connect via environment variables and role-based access control (RBAC). No credentials are stored in code or shared outside secure channels.

Tools & Access
Common questions about tool licences and what you need to get started.
Do I need to provide tool licences (e.g. Tableau, Power BI, Adobe CC, Figma)?
By default, yes — the client provides access to any proprietary tools, software licences, or platform credentials the developer will need. This keeps your data in your own accounts and avoids delays. That said, Cloudesk can also procure and manage tool licences on your behalf at an additional charge. Your assigned Technical Project Manager will advise on the best setup during onboarding.
What do I actually need to get started?
Two things: (1) access to the tools and platforms your developer will work in, and (2) a brief 30-minute onboarding call with your PM to align on scope and priorities. We handle everything else — developer assignment, sprint planning, daily standups, and Baseline QC on every delivery.
Which tools typically require a paid licence?
Common paid tools include design platforms (Figma, Adobe CC), BI and analytics tools (Tableau, Power BI, Looker), cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure), and industry-specific SaaS. Open-source stacks — VS Code, Python, React, PostgreSQL, and similar — need no licence at all. Your PM will flag any tool requirements before the first sprint starts.
